Sandpaper

Change is a little like sandpaper.

Sandpaper is used to grind out bumps and expose the hidden layer.  Change is like that.  It rubs against our dreams, and reveals the layer beneath.  Sometimes it reveals something beautiful.  Sometimes it reveals something we wish we could cover up again.

Most people would describe our family as easy-going, happy people.  Take away some beloved things such as:
~parenting-time-outs our family would provide,
~wonderful neighbor kids who are always around to play,
~seemingly endless amount of stuff we owned that occupied our time.

What is left?  Just us.

A beautiful family that God is in the purpose of shaping.  He is creating a new work in us.
He is using the sandpaper of change.

Stripping away some good things in our life has revealed some icky, sticky ones.

A selfish heart. An ungrateful spirit.  A jealous attitude.

And that is just me.  There are four more of us in this house!

There has been a tad bit of conflict lately between us.  We are a month into this change and it isn't really close to being over.  Next week we will have a house.  But, will more space and more stuff really change our hearts?  No, it won't.  But, will they allow us to hide them again?

I hope this sandpaper will continue its work.

  2. It is hard living away (which I know is only part of this post), but it creates a bond and trust within your immediate family that is SO amazing! And makes that time with your extended family so much more appreciated and fun when it happens! Thanks for sharing, I've been there and wish I would have posted with this level of honesty.
